ah yes Ann co-starring with the always affable Devo-haired George Brent! i only saw that once many years ago but i recall it not giving Ann much to do.
Devo-hair, heh. It’s not bad, and she has more to do than most of her other 1934 Warner films.
Call me old fashioned, call me a romantic, or maybe just plain dumb; but, I really like this movie. And not just for how well Ann plays her role; but for the real life story line. Bette Davis, the femme fatale, plays her part very well also. I should know – “been there, done that†, so I can see the painful similarities between the movie and real life. Then, of course, there’s Ruth Donnelly doing her normal “Ruth Donnelly†presentation. Always a character, always enjoyable. And George Brent, doing his best “George Brent†imitation; but always good as he was in those early 1930 films.
In retrospect, maybe I just realized another deep seated reason why I love Ann Dvorak so well…..
I guess that’s enough for this comment, too many old, old memories. Sorry.
You’re comments are always welcome here, Dick. I agree I like this one too, though I loath the ending. Ann should have ended up with the cosmetic king who adored her!
