Friday Fun: Ann Wields a Gun

Year of Ann Dvorak: Day 144

It’s Friday, and I am heading into a four day holiday weekend, which includes my kid sister’s graduation and a day at Disneyland. So, here’s a fun pic of Ann from The Walls of Jericho acting mortified because she just shot Cornel Wilde.

The “Jericho” in this title refers to Jericho, Kansas, does it not?

Other notable Kansas film connections would include “Dodge City”, “The Wizard Of Oz”, “Picnic”, “In Cold Blood” and “National Lampoon’s Vacation”.

As a Kansas resident, I am very proud to have this link to one of Ann’s films, however small a connection it might be.

It’s a fun day trip through the Flint Hills to lovely, picturesque and historic Jericho. I haven’t been there in quite some time. Allow me to invite anyone out there who should ever happen to find themselves in Kansas at any time in the future (while you’re on your way to somewhere else) to look me up and we’ll go there.

Don’t forget the other Ann Dvorak/Kansas film, “Abilene Town.” The movie had a big premiere in Abliene with the cast, and I even included a photo of Ann at the festivities in the book!

Abilene’s most famous former resident was in attendance at that 1946 premiere, was he not? Does the photo you’re referring to show Ann in a fur coat, along with Randolph Scott, next to that individual’s mother?

I do have a couple of the photos with Ma Eisenhower, but that’s not the one I used!
