Year of Ann Dvorak: Day 193
Since we’re on the subject of  The Case of the Stuttering Bishop poster art (as covered in the Wednesday and Thursday posts), I figured we can keep rolling along because I  have a lot from this film.
Here is the official insert from the film. It’s the same images of Ann Dvorak and Donald Woods from the one sheet, and even though the red and green are still there, they’re much less pronounced than on the larger poster.
Sorry for the terrible photo. This was taken with an early digital camera around 2002 and I have not gotten around to re-doing any of these.
Inserts, lobby cards, window cards, “farmed out” posters to the Other Company, half sheets, one sheets, synopsis sheets………………….. I thought I was a fairly knowledgeable old movie fan but this is a whole new world to me – and I dig it!
Don’t think the cool green & red “Stuttering Bishop” poster should be limited to holiday season, but that’s just my opinion. How much of your collection is on actual display at home, work? Do the pieces on display get rotated?
I think Ann can be spotted in every room of the house, except the bathrooms (too much moisture for vintage posters). Still, what’s currently on the walls is just a fraction of the collection. Rotating is something I have always meant to do, but it hasn’t happened because in all honesty, I’m too lazy. Plus, some of the posters are restored and custom framed, so they’re not going anywhere. I only have reproductions at work, though the Ann Dvorak Photo File from the library’s collection permanently resides in my office.
Movie posters as a general subject are fascinating. There were so many different types and each studio had variations. For example, grand old MGM would frequently have 2 styles of one sheets. A few years back, I did a library program on the history of movie posters and happily had a nice turnout.
I think that library program on the history of movie posters needs to go on the road. With a few stops in the Midwest, okay?
Done! (As long as someone pays my airfare)
If one of those Midwest stops should happen to be in or near Kansas City … well, remember … that daytrip to “Jericho” and “Abilene Town” would be easily manageable afterwards!
Right now, Chicago is the only stop on the calendar. There is always the possibility that we’ll get guilted into visiting the in-laws in Des Moines.
